Meet Alana
About Me (Professionally)
I’m glad you’re here. I’m Alana - a relational, trauma-informed therapist with nearly a decade of practice in the therapy field.
I began my journey as a therapist after graduating from Columbia University’s Teachers College with an M.A. and Ed.M. in Psychological Counseling. I then began working as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in substance abuse clinics, where I grounded my work through the lens of trauma-informed and relational understanding. I witnessed people struggle with substance abuse, and saw how their family members grappled with the complex relationship dynamics that often came with it. Here I became passionate about learning, guiding, and collaborating with clients who were navigating complicated and tumultuous relationship dynamics - and helping them get to the other side in peace.
When I began working in private practice, it was so I could provide my clients with the stability of weekly therapy. I believe that weekly 1:1 therapy give you a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. Together with my clients we create a personalized plan that fits the unique needs and goals of each client. I take a relational, emotionally-attuned and trauma-informed approach to guide you to real progress and noticeable change in your life.
My clinical expertise is in working with individuals and couples healing through complicated and disruptive relationship patterns. This includes toxic & addictive relationships, codependent relationship dynamics, narcissistic abuse, complicated family of origin relationships, and difficult marital dynamics. I believe that your relationships should be the place you come home to, not the thing you worry most about.
About Me (Personally)
Outside of being a therapist, I am a born and raised New Yorker who understands and respects the NYC hustle. Beyond that, I deeply understand and respect the need for self-care in this bustling city.
For me, therapy has been a life-shifting experience, along with other self-care practices I enjoy. I enjoy exercise, breath-work, grounding in nature, and spending time with animals. In my spare time, you can find me in the dog park with my rescue pup, Mabel, eating at new restaurants in NYC, practicing breathwork, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Additionally, breath work has changed my life. Through daily practice of coherent breathing I have worked toward healing my own gut-related illness. Throughout my breath-work journey, I have healed daily brain fog, exhaustion, sluggishness, and mood instability. I will incorporate mind-body, spiritual, meditative, and breath-work practices into our therapeutic work and share the most beneficial practices I’ve learned on my own healing journey.
